Are you curious and do you want to build something you're proud of? We'll help you get there, with honest feedback and room to learn.
So far our interns have come from data and security, but other fields of study are welcome too. We structure the internship around what you're studying and what you want to get out of it.
An internship here is meant to be worth your time as much as ours. That means real work you can point to afterwards, honest feedback, and the room to learn.
We're open to students from a range of studies. We look for:
Curiosity. You like figuring out how things work, and you're happy to stay with a problem until it makes sense.
Initiative. You're willing to try something and make a call, without waiting to be told every step.
Care. You want to do things properly, and you take ownership of what's yours.
A field you're keen on. Data, AI, security, or something adjacent so that you can spend your time on work you actually care about. Some comfort with the tools of your field helps, but your attitude and curiosity are much more appreciated.
On Tuesdays we're together at the office, the rest of the week you work remotely. Early bird, night owl, picking the kids up from school at 3 pm: you work your hours when it suits you.
Three pillars, nine values. Integrity, transparency and responsibility. Craftsmanship, dedication and reliability. Harmony, empathy and wellbeing.
Including Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, dbt, git, Power BI, Looker and Claude.
Depending on timing: while you're here, you might get to be involved in one of the larger European projects we work on. We can't promise it; it depends on what's live at the time, but when it lines up, it's a great thing to be part of.
We don't have heavy commercial targets. We'd rather do work that's worth doing, and do it well.
I was 23 when I was first seconded and someone charged an hourly rate for me.
And when I had a cold, I was torn. Stay home, and you let your employer down. Go to work, and your client doesn't get the full hundred percent. So what's fair?
I promised myself back then that I would never pass that on as an employer.
With us, anyone can always book hours as internal or lost if they feel they weren't productive for whatever reason, or if they made a mistake. You won't get any grief from me about that. Mistakes are human, and as far as I'm concerned the client doesn't have to pay for them.
i-spark is a data and AI consultancy from the northern Netherlands.
We're a team of about ten people and in the long run we want to grow to 25 at most. You work with everyone. On Tuesday mornings the whole team discusses the questions of the moment. Beyond that, you talk to colleagues on Slack, on the phone or during a walk.
Tamara, the founder, does hands-on work herself and has regular one-on-ones with everyone. So you can always go to her.
You get onboarded, but you'll stand on your own feet fairly quickly. And if the printer breaks, there's no IT department to file a ticket with: you try to fix it yourself first. You have to enjoy that.
We work from an ethical framework of nine values that we wrote ourselves. It rests on three pillars: doing what is right, practising our craft well and treating people as people. In practice that means being open about the choices we make, delivering reliable work and looking after each other's wellbeing, including when it comes to work pace and rest. That's why we sometimes say no to an assignment, and sometimes yes to one that earns less.
Our office is a separate building attached to Tamara's house, with its own front door, a kitchen and two floors of workspaces. On Tuesdays everyone is there.
Most people arrive between 9 and 10; the early birds are in by 8.
The whole team discusses open questions.
At the kitchen table in Tamara's house. That lunch is usually made by Tamara's mother.
We often walk as a team too, or one-on-one with Tamara: as a check-in, to brainstorm or just to catch up.
Everyone heads home.
Send your CV with a short motivation to elenamateva@i-spark.nl. No full letter, but something real: tell us in a few sentences who you are and why this place appeals to you.
Elena reads your email and gets in touch.
You have an online introduction with our external HR agency.
One with Tamara and one with colleagues.
Finally, you discuss the terms of employment with the HR agency.
Sometimes we do a short case, for example if there are still open questions or if you'd like to. Shadowing or working on a real client case isn't possible: we work with client data, and privacy and governance come first. Want to see more before you decide? Then we'll come up with something.
How long it takes. The whole process usually takes a few weeks, but it can go faster if needed.
You build and maintain the data pipelines the rest of the team relies on.
